This museum opened in April, 1983 in the northeast of the special historic spot Himeji Castle Compound, aiming at promoting prefectural residents' understanding of local history and contributing to educational, academic and cultural development.
With Permanent Exhibition Room showing Hyogo Prefecture's history, a castle, and a castle town as well as Video Library, Hands-on Experience Room and Reference Room, the museum offers a variety of lectures, courses and other programs.
A special exhibition and a planned exhibition are also held several times a year.
